Research Associate in Computational Metabolomics

Publicerad 2024-12-06

We are seeking a talented and motivated Research Associate to join a European collaboration at the cutting edge of computational metabolomics. We work with partners in Spain and Germany, through the BiACEM project to bring the “Biomic” Metabolomics Research Lab at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki to the state-of-the-art in mass spectrometry-based metabolomics. The postholder will work with the wider metabolomics research group at Imperial to enable knowledge transfer and skills training to Biomic. This will be achieved through a variety of training activities both electronic and in-person, and including hosting research visits to Imperial, as well as in-person visits to Biomic in Thessaloniki, Greece. In addition, joint research activities act as a vehicle for detailed augmentation of know-how and are focussed on three ongoing clinical studies active at Biomic. The postholder will coordinate training and joint research between the metabolomics group at Imperial and Biomic with a view to joint publications and other outputs.

In this role, you will:

  • Develop a strong working relationship with collaborating partners to enable transfer of knowledge and skills across international boundaries.
  • Create training materials and deploy training sessions in cutting edge computational metabolomics, tailoring delivery to different levels of learners.
  • Host visiting scientists, working with them for mutual benefit of both partners in the development and application of computational metabolomics techniques.
  • Develop your own computational metabolomics research, in the context of the wider project, and use this to enable training in the Biomic group.
  • Survey and establish a framework for strategic networking between the participating laboratories, enabling future collaborative research.
  • Work with partners on joint research projects, providing computational metabolomics expertise and data analysis.
  • Publish your findings in top-tier journals and present your work at international conferences.

  • A PhD (or equivalent) in Bioinformatics, Metabolomics or related field.
  • Experience in processing, modelling and interpreting LCMS metabolomic data.
  • Knowledge of computational methods used in integrating disparate metabolomics datasets.
  • Demonstrated track record of technical problem solving in metabolomic data modelling.
  • Experience of developing high quality scientific software, preferably in Python (other languages also considered).
  • The ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

  • The opportunity to work on an exciting international collaborative project.
  • Access to world-class research facilities at Imperial College London.
  • The chance to collaborate with leading experts in metabolomics and bioinformatics.
  • Hybrid working options to support work-life balance.
  • The opportunity to continue your career at a world-leading institution
  • Sector-leading salary and remuneration package (including 39 days off a year)
