Research Associate in Disease Mechanisms of Atopic Dermatitis

Publicerad 2024-10-03

You will work with Drs Peter Arkwright and Joanne Pennock in the Lydia Becker Institute of Immunology and Inflammation. Our lab is investigating disease mechanisms of atopic dermatitis (AD) with a specific interest in the mechanisms of IL-33 release in response to a key skin bacterium, Staphylococcus aureus (Al Kindi et al. J Allergy Clin Immunol 2020). This work has led to the identification of several novel therapeutics which we are characterising using primary human cell models and in vivo pre-clinical models, protein and cell assays (ELISA, western blot, immunohistochemistry, flow cytometry) and biochemical investigations (mass spectrometry, MALDI-TOF). This post will fulfil the final stages of an MRC funded project, testing these novel topical therapeutics in a pre-clinical model of AD. It is essential that applicants hold a UK Home Office Personal Licence and have a working knowledge of skin biology. We welcome candidates with experience in flow cytometry, immunohistochemistry and cell culture.

We expect this post to start January 2025 at the earliest, but start date is flexible. The post is for 6 months with the possibility of extension. This post can accommodate 0.8FTE, but weekend working will be required.

What you will get in return:

  • Fantastic market leading Pension scheme
  • Excellent employee health and wellbeing services including an Employee Assistance Programme
  • Exceptional starting annual leave entitlement, plus bank holidays
  • Additional paid closure over the Christmas period
  • Local and national discounts at a range of major retailers

As an equal opportunities employer we welcome applicants from all sections of the community regardless of age, sex, gender (or gender identity), ethnicity, disability, sexual orientation and transgender status. All appointments are made on merit.
