Research Associate in Heart Ischaemia and Cardiac Pericyte Biology

The role

A Research Associate is sought to perform cutting edge research into mechanisms of how cardiac pericytes control coronary blood flow in health and disease. The project aims to clarify how pericytes contribute to cardiac complications of diabetes, Alzheimer’s disease, as well as to identify potential pharmacological targets to prevent pericyte constriction in ischaemia. The project is funded for 20 months initially, with possibility to extend by another 2 years.


What will you be doing?

You will optimise, carry out and analyse experiments that involve transgenic and surgical models of cardiac pathology, using in vivo animal models, live tissue imaging, cardiovascular phenotyping. You will also be expected to read and contextualise relevant literature, contribute to manuscript preparation and disseminate results at scientific meetings. General duties will also include contribution to laboratory maintenance and contribution to an inclusive, supportive and communicative work environment.


You should apply if

You are passionate about biomedical research and have proven skills in critical thinking and problem-solving. Essential skills include in vivo surgery techniques and echocardiography, with abilities to work independently and as a team particularly with regards to managing resources and communicating effectively. You will have received a PhD in a relevant subject or working towards one.
