Research Associate in Liver Cell Biology

Publicerad 2024-12-19

A Research Assistant / Associate opportunity is available in the Rashid laboratory, focusing on the investigation of human liver biology using engineered pluripotent stem cell hepatic organoids. This post forms part of collaborative research with Prof Dame Molly Stevens (Oxford) and Professor Dave Carling (MRC-LMS) and we invite applications from driven scientists to contribute to our cutting-edge, translational programme.

Situated at the Hammersmith Campus, the successful candidate will join a collaborative research team leveraging state of the art stem cell engineering, biomaterials, animal models and human tissue in the context of cell therapy and disease modelling. The postholder will leverage insights gained into hepatocyte biology to probe cellular functions, advance mechanistic understanding of liver pathologies and develop novel therapeutics. The work of the lab is funded by the MRC, NIHR and select charities.

You will be instrumental in:

  • Investigating transcriptional networks driving hepatocyte development and maturation
  • Testing different 3D biomaterials, scaffolds and bioreactors
  • Generation of cutting-edge cell therapies to cure liver diseases
  • Investigation of different liver diseases using multiple disease modelling formats (2D iPSC, organoids, liver-on-chip, ex vivo liver perfusion)
  • Reporting findings to research sponsors, presenting at conferences, and publishing in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Providing guidance to staff and students involved in the project.

  • At Research Assistant level, a first/Masters degree in a relevant biomedical discipline or,
  • At Research Associate level, a PhD in a relevant biomedical discipline
  • Proven experience in multiple research environments with first-authored publications in relevant and refereed journals.
  • knowledge of hepatocyte biology
  • Experience in cell culture and cell-based assays
  • Skillset in dealing with high-dimensional datasets related to cell biology
  • experience of leading and managing a research project
  • ability to demonstrate a deep knowledge of own research background and to effectively communicate research achievements to a specialist and to a lay audience
