Research Associate in Neuromuscular Adaptations of dialysis patients
Job description
School of Sport, Exercise and Health Sciences
Full-time; Fixed-term for 2 years
We are looking for a Research Associate to work on a large multiple centre trial evaluating the efficacy and mechanisms of neuromuscular electrical stimulation (NMES) as a treatment for sarcopenia in chronic kidney disease patients, the STIM-HD trial funded by the NIHR Efficacy and Mechanism Evaluation (EME) Programme. This is a large trial of more than 200 patients, and a mechanistic arm with more detailed measurements on around 50 patients.
A highly competent, well-organised and industrious Research Associate is required to take a lead role in the collection and analysis of neuromuscular function and particularly underpinning physiological measurements including isometric strength, rate of force development, high density and intramuscular EMG, muscle stimulation (contractile properties) before and after the 12-week NMES intervention. The role will be involved in standardising and quality controlling neuromuscular measurements at all sites, and particularly collection of the more detailed neuromuscular measurements within the mechanistic arm of the study.
The ideal candidate will have a PhD in neuromuscular physiology or a related field and experience of using a range of relevant techniques in humans and ideally patients or frail individuals.
This full-time post is offered on a fixed-term contract until 2nd March 2027.
