Research Associate in Space Plasma Physics (2 posts)

Publicerad 2024-12-10

We have openings for two Research Associates in Space Physics to join one of the leading groups in the world in this field. You will have the opportunity to work on data from missions such as Solar Orbiter, Parker Solar Probe and MMS, studying key plasma physics phenomena such as reconnection and turbulence as well as the large-scale structure of the solar magnetic field and solar wind. You will work with other members of the group as well as the worldwide community with whom we collaborate on these ground-breaking missions.

You will work with academics, postdoctoral researchers and doctoral students to undertake research in space plasma physics. You will work on magnetic reconnection with Jonathan Eastwood, or the inner solar wind with Tim Horbury. Your work will include analysis of in situ spacecraft data, but could also include simulation, modelling and solar remote sensing data. You will also have the opportunity to take part in undergraduate teaching if you wish.

  • You will have a PhD in a related area, or have submitted your thesis
  • You will have experience in in-situ spacecraft data analysis in the solar wind and/or magnetosphere, or remote solar observations
  • Relevant simulation or modelling experience is also welcome
  • Ideally you will have experience of studying either magnetic reconnection or the solar wind in the inner heliosphere

  • Join a dynamic research community, working on some of the highest profile space missions
  • Work alongside engineers who design, build and operate space instruments
  • Continue your career in a world-leading institution in the heart of a global city
  • Sector-leading salary and remuneration package (including 39 days off a year and generous pension schemes).
