Research Associate in Thermally Drawn Catheters Job Type: Full-Time. Starting Salary: £48056 - £56345 per annum 48056 plus benefits To find out more about the job please click the ‘apply for job’ button to be taken to Imperial job site About the role We are seeking a talented and motivated Research Associate to join a groundbreaking project funded by the Medical Research Council (MRC). This project, titled Thermally Drawn Catheter for Mapping Drivers of Atrial Fibrillation (AF), aims to develop an advanced catheter as part of a bigger system enabling the precise localisation and treatment of sites that trigger heart arrhythmia. The role focuses on developing an advanced catheter using a thermal drawing approach and integrating it into the electrophysiology system we created. You will be joining a multidisciplinary team that bridges advanced electrophysiology research with medical interventions, working in an environment dedicated to pioneering clinical applications. What you would be doing Lead the development of an advanced catheter and integrate it into our electrophysiology system. Collaborate with engineers and clinicians to develop methodologies for precise localisation of AF triggering sites. Conduct experimental validation of the system on benchtop and in a preclinical environment. Publish your findings in top-tier journals and present your work at international conferences. What we are looking for A PhD (or equivalent) in Mechatronics Engineering, Robotics, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field. Strong experience in advanced fabrication techniques, including multimaterial fibre fabrication, thermal drawing, and clean room protocols. Hands-on expertise with multimaterial fibre technologies and a solid background in experimental setups and system integration within biomedical or engineering contexts. Proven experience in developing or applying microfabrication techniques. Strong programming skills in Python, MATLAB, or C++ for developing real-time algorithms and performing data analysis. Knowledge of interventional medical devices and systems. The ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
