Research Associate (Making) - Communication Design

Part-Time, Fixed-Term (0.165 FTE)

Rosetta Arts, in collaboration with the Royal College of Art (RCA), invites applications for a Research Associate (Making) in Communication Design to contribute to the delivery of an innovative and community-focused heritage project, "Custom House, Our House".

About the Project

"Custom House, Our House" is funded by The National Lottery Heritage Fund and explores the impact of community-led regeneration in Custom House, Newham. Collaborating with Custom House Bookshop, Newham Heritage Service, Newham Libraries, and Rosetta Arts, this project will train volunteers from underrepresented groups in oral history techniques. Outcomes will include interviews, photography exhibitions, printed and digital publications, and public engagement events, all aimed at celebrating Newham's intangible cultural heritage.

The Research Associate will work closely with RCA Principal Investigator Jessie Brennan, Co-Investigator Joseph Pochodzaj, and project collaborators to deliver project outcomes, focusing on making and communication design aspects.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the design and creation of research outputs, including visual materials and publications.
  • Support the curation of exhibitions and participatory workshops.
  • Collaborate with volunteers, stakeholders, and community members to facilitate project activities.
  • Assist in delivering high-quality design and research methodologies aligned with project objectives.

Skills and Qualifications

  • A postgraduate qualification in Communication Design or a related field.
  • Experience in community or heritage-based projects.
  • Strong visual and design skills, with the ability to create engaging materials.
  • Excellent organisational and interpersonal skills.
  • Availability to start immediately and commit to the full project duration.
