The role

The LEAP Digital Health Hub is an EPSRC-funded partnership that aims to catalyse innovation, research, and collaboration in digital health in the South West of England and Wales. LEAP brings together five leading regional universities and Health Data Research UK (HDRUK) plus a network of 60+ partners in industry, charities, NHS trusts and social care organisations.

The Hub is looking to appoint a ‘Researcher in Residence’ in the area of Software Development for Health. This Researcher will add value and their specialist expertise to the Research and Fellowship programmes, collaborating with Hub Fellows and Hub research consortia to undertake publishable research in the Digital Health topic. Typical projects will involve working as part of a team, alongside industry and the NHS, and will be motivated by real clinical needs.


What will you be doing?
  • The postholder will form part of a small team put in place to work on various collaborative projects funded by the Hub and provide advice and expertise in software development to Hub Fellows and partners.
  • They will liaise with research teams to collaboratively design and deliver software solutions to various digital health challenges.
  • They will also participate in the peer review of Hub research and fellowship proposals, and will have the opportunity to contribute towards knowledge exchange within the Hub through participation in networking events and training activities.

    • You should apply if
  • You have good knowledge of at least one widely used compiled language (such as C++) and one widely used scripting language (such as Python);
  • Knowledge and experience of code development including version control, documentation, unit testing and software engineering best practice;
  • Are able to assimilate complex information, about a wide range of topics both technical and those relating to the areas of research being undertaken by researchers;
  • Are able to quickly understand, analyse, diagnose and offer advice on the often complex issues which arise in research.
