Research Associate in Linguistics

(£32, - £37, p.a. pro rata)

0.6 FTE

3 year fixed-term contract

About the Role

We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and capable candidate, keen to contribute to contribute to research within an AHRC-DFG funded project examining the linguistic practices of coal mining communities in the East Midlands and the Ruhr Area in Germany. You will support with research on a study working with former miners and their families to examine this linguistic heritage which is disappearing.

This will involve the planning and undertaking of field work with mining communities and mining museums in the East Midlands, assisting in the development of interviews, or literature/database searches. You will work closely with the research team, both in the UK and Germany on this project to contribute to successful research outputs, which include research articles, an exhibition and linguistic landscape data.

Applications are welcomed from individuals with knowledge of sociolinguistics. You will be required to speak German at a high level to work with German project partners.
