Research Director - Household Surveys

Key Responsibilities

  • Direct individual research studies including large scale projects to time and budget
  • Manage and deliver survey and other research projects to budget and timetable
  • Manage project teams to deliver first-class research to meet client needs
  • Provide advice, guidance and quality assurance for every aspect of the design, implementation, analysis and writing up of a study
  • Lead on proposals and applications for funding
  • Contribute to the development and mentoring of staff
  • Engage in impact activities to promote NatCen’s work externally
  • Maintain and promote high ethical and information security standards
  • To perform any other reasonable duties that NatCen may require that are consistent with the broad nature of the job.

    Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

  • An undergraduate degree.
  • Experience of directing social or market research survey projects and programmes relating to the policy areas / methodological areas outlined in the relevant role profile(s).
  • A track record of securing funding for high quality social or market research.
  • Demonstrable methodological skills in one or more of the following: surveys, quantitative analysis or evaluation, and ability to lead quantitative survey research projects.
  • Knowledge and expertise in methodological areas / policy areas outlined in the relevant role profile(s).
  • Experience of leading, managing and developing teams. 
  • Excellent project management skills and the ability to manage project budgets.
  • Ability to work flexibly and proactively on multiple concurrent research projects.
  • Commitment to building and maintaining good relationships with partners and customers.
  • Ability to build, manage and sustain internal relationships successfully.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage with and influence client relationships and internal stakeholders.
