Research Engineer in By-products

Publicerad 2024-10-04

ArcelorMittal is the world’s largest steel producer. We use the most innovative technology to create the steels tomorrow’s world will be made of. Every day over 190,000 of our talented people, located in over 60 countries, push the boundaries of digitalization and use advanced technology to create a world that is stronger, faster and smarter. To help make this possible, they know they can depend on the support and training that a company of our scope and scale can provide.

While 90% of total CO2 emissions for steel production are coming from Ironmaking processes, the whole team is driven by ArcelorMittal's objective to reach carbon neutrality. The development of hydrogen direct reduction for steelmaking will generate new types of by-products (dusts, sludges, and slags). The management of these new materials, including internal recycling or external valorization, is structural for the implementation of the new processes.

Your role:

As a Research Engineer in By-products, you will participate and lead research projects related to by-products recycling, minimization of CO2 emissions, and waste management.

You will participate in laboratory or industrial tests and in numerical development, with responsibilities such as:

Identify the challenges and blocking points for the valorization of new by-products.

Propose and develop innovative solutions for their full use inside (or outside) the ArcelorMittal group.

Validate the solutions at lab or industrial scale (build equipment, run tests and industrial trials, analyze results).

Participate in the R&D development strategy with R&D stakeholders (Portfolio, sales teams, CTO, etc.).

Participate in transversal activities in safety, environment, and quality management.

Your profile:

You hold a Master's degree or a PhD specialized in the field of Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Hydrometallurgy, Electrochemistry, Pyrometallurgy, or By-products treatment and valorization.

A previous experience in R&D applied to an industrial context is an asset.

You are fluent in French and English.

You have skills in laboratory, pilot experimental tools use and development, and simulation.

You are able to work in a multicultural environment.
