RESEARCH ENGINEER M/ F

Publicerad 2024-11-25

Who we are

Since it was founded in 1780, the Ecole Nationale Supérieure Arts et Métiers has been committed to meeting the ever-changing challenges of industry and society.

A public scientific, cultural and professional establishment (EPSCP) under the authority of the French Ministry of Higher Education and Research, it comprises eight campuses and three institutes throughout France.

Its primary mission: to train engineers capable of designing environmentally-friendly products and systems, as well as controlling industrial organization by controlling risks and costs.

Job environment

LaBoMaP (Materials and Processes Laboratory) is a research laboratory. Since 1993, the laboratory has been involved in scientific research and partnerships in the field of manufacturing processes, in particular the material removal machining process.

The laboratory's activities are largely based on scientific experimentation, using high-tech facilities. Modeling physical phenomena is also an important part of the researchers' work.

Applied topics cover all industrial sectors, such as automotive, aeronautics, aerospace, nuclear, biomedical, watchmaking, where the relationship between materials and the manufacturing process is of paramount importance.

As part of the ANR CLAS AAP Labcom_2021 project, LaBoMaP is conducting an ambitious 54-month research program with industrial partner SAFE Metal, a steel foundry group. The aim of this joint laboratory is to develop innovation in the foundry field, enabling SAFE Metal to position itself as a leading specialist in cast steel worldwide, and LaBoMaP to become a major player in national research in this field.

Missions

The research engineer recruited will be responsible for various tasks within the LabCom CLAS:

  • Participate in all LabCom CLAS research activities
  • Reporting on LabCom CLAS to various stakeholders (ANR, competitiveness clusters, etc.)
  • Contribute to the LabCom CLAS's scientific development by writing scientific articles and taking part in international conferences.
  • Ensure the old scientific and technological basis for the laboratory's development and sustainability beyond 54 months (investment, identification of partners, etc.).
  • Participate in laboratory maintenance and upkeep

Activities

In this capacity, he or she will be responsible for the following activities:

  • Participate in the development of a new foundry process
  • Support PhD students in their test campaigns
  • Finalize the development of a pilot tool for the study of mold/metal reactions in collaboration with a PhD student.
  • Develop tools for characterizing the thermal properties of sand molds: diffusimeter, calorimeter, etc.
  • Conduct test campaigns to characterize sand erosion

Objective

During the term of the contract, the person recruited must have succeeded in:

  • Produce functional castings using the new process developed at the Laboratory
  • Write at least one scientific article
  • Have tools for characterizing the thermal properties of sand molds operational
  • Determine the thermal properties of molding sands to feed numerical simulation databases

Profile / Skills required

Engineer or Doctor in Materials and/or Process Engineering, you wish to develop your career in the field of Academic Research related to the foundry process. Entry-level profiles are welcome for this position; experience in a Research Laboratory and/or foundry would be a plus.

The following skills are required for this position:

Knowledge:

  • Understanding the ferrous alloy casting process.
  • Knowledge of ferrous alloys and their characterization: optical/electronic microscopy, mechanical tests (microhardness, impact strength, etc.), metallographic preparations, etc.
  • Be a driving force behind new research programs

Operational know-how

  • Writing articles and scientific papers in English
  • Management of scientific projects and organization of LabCom resources

How to be

The candidate must demonstrate the following qualities:

  • Ability to work independently, be organized and rigorous
