Job Description

We have an exciting opportunity for a Research Manager to join our Research Programmes Directorate at LGC Ltd. As a Research Manager, you will play a key role in driving the strategic development and delivery of both NIHR and non-NIHR research funding programmes. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to reducing health inequalities and reconfiguring the health, social care, and public health systems.

Responsibilities:

  • Research and articulate potential research investment opportunities
  • Advise potential applicants
  • Revise application forms and guidance documents
  • Review applications for funding
  • Coordinate and manage the peer review process
  • Oversee funding committees
  • Provide feedback to successful and unsuccessful applicants
  • Undertake due diligence of proposals based on critical assessment of healthcare-related projects
  • Negotiate funding agreements for projects recommended for funding
  • Manage a portfolio of funded projects
  • Regularly communicate and collaborate with individuals both within and outside the organization.
  • Lead or support strategic development initiatives
  • Draft SOPs, work instructions, and template documents
  • Assist with the quality control of minutes and external documentation
  • Prepare regular and ad hoc programme reports, papers, and minutes
  • Identify enhancements to working practices
  • Organise and attend site visits and external meetings
  • Respond to Parliamentary Questions or briefing requests
  • Qualifications

    Requirements:

  • A degree in biomedical, health, or social sciences, or equivalent experience in the field
  • Strong ability to communicate effectively and experience in building relationships with various individuals and teams.
  • Track record in successful project and programme management
  • Ability to think strategically
  • Excellent writing and attention to detail
  • Excellent planning and organisational skills
  • Analytical and complex problem-solving skills
  • Strong communication skills and customer focus
  • Committed team player
  • Experience in a research management environment
  • Preferred: PhD in a medical, scientific, technical, or social field. Equivalent experience will also be considered.
  • Desirable: Knowledge of the UK's health and care research landscape
