  • Salary: Up to £31,500 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.

    Job Introductions

    The Sport+ team deliver projects which drive audience growth on iPlayer, Sounds and BBC Sport digital platforms. The content is audience-driven, high-quality long and mid form storytelling which is sport focussed – and which entertains & provides insight.

    We are looking for a Sport+ Researcher to help develop and deliver compelling long and mid form projects. The successful candidate will be passionate about sport and have great communication skills. They will have sound judgement and an instinct for stories and content that resonates with audiences, as well as possessing key skills in researching archive and contributors.

    Sport+ aims to give sport audiences content which keeps them on BBC platforms for longer and makes them feel they get more value from BBC. The Sport+ researcher will be a crucial part of that team.

    Main Responsibilities

  • The Researcher for Sport+ Longform will be involved in planning and development meetings with Editorial Leads, providing in-depth research on projects and assisting with creative treatments.
  • They will source and clear archive and stills from a variety of UK and International copyright holders and governing bodies. This includes making contact, negotiating rates, accurately communicating necessary rights/ terms/ territories, ensuring the material arrives in time and in the correct format, declaring final usage and proofreading license agreements before signature.
  • They will keep an accurate record of quotes and regularly update the Producer and Production Manager with archive costs. 
  • They will maintain an up to date record of copyright contacts.
  •  The role will also require taking on multi-platform responsibility to ensure Sport+ Longform content is easily available to all platforms.
  • As the Researcher for Sport+ Longform, the successful candidate will support the team in the week-to-week planning, setting up and in-depth research of Sport+ Longform projects.

  • The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of sourcing and clearing archive.
  • Multiplatform experience is essential, as well as a strong interest in and knowledge of Sport.
  • Knowledge of Dalet is desirable but training will be provided. 
  • The ideal candidate will be able to juggle multiple projects simultaneously, working with different Producers and conflicting deadlines. 
  • You have a proven track record of generating ideas, new treatments + stories for the digital/linear space specifically targeting an audience under 35 and an awareness of the digital landscape, content and contributors/guests/talent.
  • You will have experience in research in television, radio, print journalism or interactive and the ability to identify key ideas, debates and issues within the field.
  • You will have a proven track record of contributing ideas and locating relevant sources of information, contributors and guests using initiative, perseverance and persuasion.
