Job description
Exposure to ionizing radiation increases cancer risk. This increase depends at the same time of radiation-related factors and individual factors such as sex, age, genetics and lifestyle. The risk of radiation-induced breast and endometrial cancer is maximum at puberty, probably because of the influence of oestrogens on the development of these tissues. However, irrespective of age at exposure, this risk is higher for women who had early menstruations. Obesity is one of the factors responsible for an early menarche age. It is therefore possible that interactions between leptin and sex hormones increase the radiation-induced cancer risk.
The MIRAMARE project, funded by the Pianoforte European partnership, aims to test this hypothesis in vitro.
Breast and endometrial cells will be exposed to different doses/dose rates of ionizing radiation in the presence and/or absence of leptin and sex hormones, alone and in combinations, to identify changes induced at the genetic, epigenetic, transcriptional and functional levels, with a focus on induction of senescence and modifications of the immune environment.
The partners involved in the MIRAMARE are Stockholm University (SU, Sweden), the University of Campania (UCampania, Naples, Italy), the Silesian University of Technology (SUT, Gliwice, Poland) and the LCBM at CEA-Grenoble, with the collaboration of the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA, Didcot, UK).
The ProMIT team will mainly address the modulation of the expression of inflammatory factors in irradiated cells, and how these factors are able to modulate the cellular micro-environment.
Applicant Profile
PhD in biology, with a solid background in radiobiology and/or the study of inflammation. You have a proven experience in cellular biology (primary human cell culture, FACS, imaging), molecular biology (RT-qPCR) and biochemistry (western blots, cytokine quantification).
The applicant must be curious, rigorous, dynamic, with a strong sense of organization and team work while being able to work independently, including for the redaction of reports and scientific publications.
English (written/spoken) required; French will be a plus.
The applicant must be vaccinated against Hepaptis B.
In line with CEA commitments for the integration of people with handicaps, this position is open to all.
