This is a rare opportunity to join a dynamic operational team covering some of Control Risks’ most exciting issues. Confidential Crisis Response supports Control Risks’ clients who encounter situations of kidnapping-for-ransom, threat extortion and other crises. The successful candidate will join the Special Risks Analysis team within Confidential Crisis Response, supporting our clients through research and analysis.

Special Risks Analysis (SRA) maintains the world’s largest database of kidnap-for-ransom incidents, which underpins our industry-leading analysis. The successful Researcher will carry out daily research; load incidents to our database and cleanse data to ensure the operational integrity of the team’s analysis; as well as contribute research and analysis to our subscriptions platform, basic consulting tasks and casework.

What You'll Do:

Database

  • Maintain our database of kidnap-for-ransom incidents, believed to be the most comprehensive database of such crimes in the world.
  • Assist with updating database records of past cases to improve capability for future operations.

Research and analysis

  • Conduct comprehensive research to identify kidnap-for-ransom and extortion incidents to load on the database.
  • Identify information of relevance to share with the Senior Analysts, Response Management team or Consultants.
  • Write analysis for our flagship subscription platform, Seerist, in the form of writing updates and refreshing background content.
  • Carry out research to support Control Risks’ advice to clients during live kidnap and extortion cases
  • Support the regional Analysts with research for clients on consulting tasks
  • Identify relevant opportunities for improving data capture
  • Contribute to the improvement of research technique

Requirements

Who You Are:

Essential

  • Previous experience with research and data/information handling
  • An interest in international affairs, particularly security and the business environment
  • Excellent verbal and written English
  • Ability to carry out research in Spanish or French
  • Developed research skills
  • Competence in the Office 365 suite of platforms, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Excellent attention to detail and a high level of accuracy
  • Ability to understand and summarise large amounts of information
  • Ability to work with a team and on own initiative

Preferred

  • Ability to carry out research in any other foreign language, such as Portuguese, Arabic or Mandarin
