The role

The successful applicant will be expected to contribute fully to high-quality and research-led teaching within the Department of History, and will be a core member of the Hong Kong History Centre team. They will have a track record of teaching history at undergraduate level and of postgraduate supervision, and will take up the post on 1 August 2025.


What will you be doing?

The role of Senior Lecturer in Modern East Asian History is an open-ended Pathway 1 position, encompassing research, education and administrative responsibilities. This means that the role holder will be supported to develop their research programme, including actively seeking opportunities to fund their research and publish their research findings. They will also contribute to teaching on both our undergraduate and postgraduate programmes as well as doctoral supervision, and will support the activities of the School through undertaking administrative roles as directed by the Head of School. The postholder will provide expert research supervision, support the Hong Kong History Centre’s research, training, and public engagement initiatives, and network internationally as an ambassador for the Centre and its mission.

We encourage applications from exceptional candidates specialising in the history of modern East Asia with a track record of publication relating to, or demonstrable commitment to, researching Hong Kong in a global context, with a research and teaching focus in the history of any of the following: economy, technology, environment, science or medicine; complementing existing expertise in the Hong Kong History Centre and aligning with areas of international excellence within the department and wider faculty.


Applicants are required to include two examples of article-length written work.
