Senior Research Associate in Plant Cell Biology

Publicerad 2024-08-28

The role

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral plant cell biologist to research root-soil interactions in Claire Grierson’s laboratory. This Leverhulme Trust funded project characterises molecular mechanisms that produce and secrete biomolecules to alter soil properties and root-soil binding. Our long-term goal is to understand how plant roots bind to and alter soil, reducing desertification and soil erosion. The team works in the Life Sciences Building, a vibrant, friendly, international, well-equipped centre for biology research, teaching and training.

Interview are likely to be on 02/10/2024.

What will you be doing?

You will investigate how candidate root exudate proteins localise in the cell and are transported through the endomembrane system to the cell and root surface. You will work closely with other team members who investigate how these proteins act on compounds that affect soil properties or root-soil interactions.

You should apply if

Please apply if you are interested in the project, have a PhD in a relevant field (e.g. plant, cell or molecular biology), an understanding of molecular genetics, experience using confocal microscopy to visualise and quantify cell morphologies and cellular compartments, and an interest in being a plant cell biologist in our interdisciplinary research team. Clear, friendly interpersonal communication, organisation, record keeping, problem solving, self-motivation, pragmatic time management, teamwork and the ability to give and receive constructive criticism will all be important for this role. The team regularly hosts Bachelor and Masters degree students who you could help to welcome, train and support.
