The role:

To develop and deliver effective administrative support for the Force Vetting Unit and in particular to provide an assurance as to the integrity of all applicants wishing to join Gwent Police. Also, to support the Force Vetting Manager in the vetting of non-police personnel.

Key Accountabilities:



  • To conduct security checks to ensure the integrity of existing staff and all applicants to Gwent Police by interrogating appropriate systems such as the Police National Computer, Police National Database and internal systems such as NICHE. To assist the Force Vetting Manager with vetting interviews when necessary


  • To interpret that data and prepare the applicants vetting information in a full and methodical manner to assist the Force Vetting Manager to make effective, proportionate and timely decisions.




  • To conduct credit reference checks and assist the Force Vetting Manager with financial vetting interviews when necessary.




  • To communicate with a wide range of internal and external departments in respect of processing enquiries (Special Branch, People Services, Professional Standards Department and Counter Corruption). Also monitor the progress of a candidates vetting application sent to outside forces to ensure a timely response.




  • To review documentation and seek clarification from vetting candidates in person, by telephone or in writing as necessary, in order to obtain accurate and full relevant personal information in a discreet and sensitive manner.




  • To create and manage candidates vetting files and to maintain the vetting database in accordance with the Force Vetting Procedure and conforming to GDPR.




  • Experience Required:



  • Due to Police Criteria, you must have lived in the UK for at least the last 3 years continuously to apply for this role.

  • Must be IT literate and have the ability to use a wide range of Microsoft applications e.g. Excel and Word

  • Must be able to demonstrate use of Microsoft applications to provide management information and reports

  • Must be able to demonstrate previous experience of working with minimal supervision

  • Must have previous experience of working to deadlines

  • Must have previous experience in the interrogation, evaluation, collation and analysis of information both computerised and manually.

  • Must have some knowledge of the following:



  • General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR),
    Management of Police Information (MOPI)
    Freedom of Information Act (FOIA)
