LabEx MS2T
The device “Laboratories of Excellence” aims to provide the best national laboratories with international visibility and significant resources to enable them to compete with their foreign counterparts, to attract researchers and academics of international renown and build a political integrated research, training and development of high level.
The Labex MS2T “Control of Technological Systems-of-Systems” is a multi-disciplinary scientific problem that targets a scope of application that may be very large. Backed by the experience of the three partner laboratories, Labex MS2T will make significant progress on three significant social issues : Transport and Mobility, Security, Health (ICT and Health Engineering).

The Laboratory of Excellence Labex MS2T was chosen by the French government in March 2011 after being selected by an international jury as part of the “Investments of the Future” programme. It received a €6.7 million grant for nine years.

System of Systems
The unprecedented development in means of communication has currently resulted in the large-scale interconnection of autonomous technological systems that can collaborate, or be used conjointly, to carry out certain tasks. Thus we are observing the emergence of highly-organized meta-systems whose components are themselves systems. One speaks of «System of Systems» (SoS). A SoS is a complex system of a particular type, created by the systematic and dynamic assembly of various interacting subsystems.

Summary and objectives
Governance and operation
The governance planned for the management of Labex MS2T has 4 main objectives :
- Provide the project with strategic management, involving the key financial backers
- Open up the project to an international di-mension and lay the foundations for new colla-borations
- Provide the project with an operational au-thority for operations management and monito-ring
- Avoid excessively cumbersome and complex governance by dividing the operational responsibilities of Labex fully in line with the current governance of the Heudiasyc laboratory and the SHIC Federation
Guidelines Labex MS2T operation
Research
Scientific coordination is carried out primarily at research topic-level. Research topic meetings are open to all members or conducted in the form of workshops, in addition to a monthly seminar open to the outside world.

Education
The Master’s degree in Interacting Complex Systems (MICS) forms an integral part of the laboratory of excellence (Labex) «Control of System of Systems» education programme.
MICS issues a national Master’s degree fully accredited by the French Ministry of Higher Education

The course modules tie in with the Labex research programme:
- Courses are based on the laboratories’ areas of expertise
- Experimental platforms (SyNeMus, PILCAM2) and the Equipex equipment (Robotex and Figure)
