Caesar (center of advanced european studies and research)
Caesar (center of advanced european studies and research) is a non-profit foundation under German private law. The foundation operates a research center. Caesar is closely associated with the Max Planck Society (MPG).
Trustors are the Federal Republic of Germany and the Federal State of North Rhine-Westphalia. At the formation in the year 1995 they contributed a total amount of then 750 million DM, of which 685 million DM were paid by the Federal Republic of Germany and 65 million DM by the Federal State of North Rhine-Westphalia. 190 million DM were designed for investment funds for construction and initial equipment of the research center caesar. 560 million DM were placed in institutional funds. caesar finances itself mainly through earnings from the foundation assets. The foundation is officially recognized as non-profit-making in terms of the Fiscal Code.
The foundation board makes essential decisions and monitors the work of the board of directors. The board of directors elects the chairman from its midst for a term of two years. The directors lead the scientific departments of the research center. They are appointed by the MPG and the foundation board.
