Kempten University of Applied Sciences
Kempten University of Applied Science is the only state higher education establishment in Allgäu. It trains students in the fields of engineering, business administration and tourism management, computer science and multimedia and social and health studies. Since its establishment in 1977, this University at the edge of the Alps has experienced steady and continuous growth.
Each year, over 6,000 candidates apply for a place in Kempten and this figure is growing. Around 4,500 students are currently enrolled on 21 different degree programmes. 100 professors give the majority of the lectures, assisted by c. 200 lecturers from private industry. A provisional start-up building has now been replaced by a 42,000 m² campus in Bahnhofstraße with modern teaching facilities, laboratories, a library and a canteen. 160 non-academic staff keep the University administration, faculties and laboratories running smoothly.
A key feature of Kempten University of Applied Sciences is the broad and in-depth qualifications it offers with selected foundation degree programmes with a sensible level of specialisation in the second half of the programme. We have a particular focus on practice and international aspects.
A wide range of partnerships with business provide an excellent framework for applied study. Students have the chance to spend part of their degree abroad at one of around 80 partner universities across the world.
The tuition fees of 400 euros per semester are used to improve studying conditions, in particular the service infrastructure and teaching in small groups.
As part of the target capacity development plan of the Bavarian regional government, the University created a further 1,254 places by 2011.
