About your role
As dedicated Junior Business Developer for IXA-ACS, you will support the search for new collaborative research projects with external (global) parties, particularly pharmaceutical, biotechnology and medtech companies. Appointed within the Innovation eXchange Amsterdam (IXA) team of Amsterdam UMC, you will be the liaison for ACS with the market, seeking external leads based on deep market intelligence that provides insight into the field. The focus for this role is on clinical, translational, and transmural research.
You will learn to be involved in the team’s key responsibilities including:
- Identifying and pursuing new opportunities for collaboration with companies for research into cardiovascular disease, together with clinicians and researchers within ACS, aiming to generate visible research funding from external sources for ACS research.
- Building strong connections and acting as a trusted point of contact, both for ACS researchers and for external partners, particularly in pharma, biotech and medtech.
- Developing your own network, for instance through attending conferences (both scientific and business-oriented).
- Conducting market analyses to align industry needs with ACS research expertise, and explore collaboration opportunities.
- Defining research proposals and budgets, in collaboration with ACS researchers and senior Business Developers.
- Effectively manage the start-up of clinical trials, in close collaboration with individual investigators, the Heart Center Clinical Trial Bureau CURIUS and Clinical trial Proposal Managers – all while carefully managing priorities.
- Negotiating collaboration agreements, including intellectual property arrangements, together with the legal back office team.
- Negotiating project budgets and potential financial milestones based on successful project outcomes, together Clinical Trial Proposal Managers and financial back office.
- Systematically documenting exchanged information such as contacts, legal documents, meeting agendas and minutes, press releases, and publications.
About you- A completed scientific training (MSc) in life sciences is required; a PhD in life sciences, knowledge of cardiovascular clinical research, an MBA or relevant industry experience in life sciences are a plus.
- Interest in working with the life sciences biotech, pharmaceutical or medtech industry.
- Excellent communication skills in English, preferably also fluent in Dutch (ideally you should be able to understand Dutch).
- A proactive, creative and goal-oriented personality with strong problem-solving skills. A team player who gets things done. This position requires an energetic, self-starting, stress-resistant attitude. Ambition to develop a sales-oriented and objective-driven attitude combined with strong communication & negotiation skills both internally and externally are crucial. Being able to influence without formal authority would be great.
- Eager to acquire more knowledge and curious about the broad spectrum of cardiovascular diseases.
- Affinity for financial and legal aspects of public-private research collaborations and valorization initiatives, including IP, publication rights, and budgeting standards; and a willingness to acquire any lacking skills.
- Ambition to learn negotiation skills (experience negotiating with industry partners is a plus).
- Compassion for patients suffering from cardiovascular disease, translated into passion for creating collaborations that push scientific research and clinical care forward.
Our offer- A contract for a period of 12 months, where you will be trained as a business developer. During the first year we will explore options for a long term contract.
- Salary scale 10-11: between € 3.598 and € 6.594 gross per month for a full-time (36h/week) position.
- In addition to a good basic salary, we offer 8.3% end-of-year bonus.
- Vacation hours: 190.4 per year based on full-time employment and possibility to save additional hours.
- Training on-the job, combined with relevant training opportunities, through BD courses offered by BioEurope, BioConvention, C.E.L. for Pharma and/or ASTP, the European network for knowledge transfer professionals.
