The Innovation Center for Artificial Intelligence (ICAI) is looking for an innovative Communication Student Assistant to help us showcase our research, labs, community and impact. This job is ideal for someone who is a storyteller that can turn complex research into compelling narratives. This is what you will do
In this role, you will act as a creative bridge between complex AI research and the public. You are expected to translate technical lab outcomes into impact-driven, human-centric narratives that showcase real-world value. You will use your creativity to design visuals and manage our social media presence, ensuring our community stays engaged and informed.
Tasks and responsibilities:
- Content & Storytelling - Draft initial versions of articles, event wrap-ups, and assist in gathering data from research labs to help create impact stories that explain complex topics in simple terms.
- Social Media - Design and create visuals, schedule posts according to the content calendar; monitor engagement and compile monthly reports.
- Newsletter Coordination - Collect content blocks, assist with template formatting, and perform final link checks and test-sends before distribution.
- Website Maintenance - Update existing pages, upload approved news articles/ event agenda overviews.
- Technical & SEO Support - Conduct website health checks for broken links, implement minor design tweaks (buttons/forms), and apply basic SEO checklists.
- Event & Community Logistics - Provide on-site and offline support (registration, badges, speakers and attendees communication) and assist with community contact lists and promotional materials.
What we ask of you
We are looking for a student who proactively takes ownership of their creative tasks and remains organized when coordinating with research labs or assisting at events. You keep your cool when it gets busy and maintain a sharp eye for detail when performing technical website updates or final newsletter checks.
You also are:
- Currently enrolled in a Master’s Degree in a relevant field (e.g. Communications, Marketing, Media).
- Experienced in communication and content creation.
- Experienced in graphic design tools (e.g. Photoshop, Premier Pro, Illustrator, Canva, etc.).
- A team player and able to support events and community activities.
- Solution-oriented with an excellent command of English (oral and writing).
This is what we offer you
We offer a temporary employment contract for max 16 hours per week for a period of 12 months. If proven suitable, an extension is possible. The preferred starting date is as soon as possible.
The gross monthly salary, based on 38 hours per week and dependent on how far advanced you are in your study, ranges between € 3,084 to € 3,141 (scale SA). This does not include 8% holiday allowance and 8,3% year-end allowance. The UFO profile Student Assistant is applicable. A favourable tax agreement, the ‘30% ruling’, may apply to non-Dutch applicants. The Collective Labour Agreement of Universities of theNetherlandsis applicable.

We are a small team of 7 members working daily to support and coordinate activities within ICAI, the Innovation Center for Artificial Intelligence, which brings together knowledge institutes, industry, and governmental and societal partners in the Netherlands to develop talent and technology in the area of artificial intelligence. You will have a lot of responsibility within the team and the opportunity to contribute directly to impactful projects in a dynamic environment
