About your role
As a PhD candidate, you will investigate the functional role of the dark genome in colorectal cancer. This position is ideal for an enthusiastic and dedicated researcher with a strong interest in cancer biology, gene regulation, non-coding RNAs and bioinformatics.
You will combine experimental and computational approaches and work with a broad range of molecular and cellular techniques, including:
- cloning and lentiviral production;
- flow cytometry and microscopy;
- CRISPR-based functional genomics technologies;
- analysis and interpretation of sequencing/screening data;
- supervision of MSc and BSc students.
About youYou are an ambitious, curious and highly motivated researcher who enjoys working in an international and collaborative environment. In addition, you have:
- a master's degree in molecular oncology, molecular biology or a closely related discipline;
- demonstrated experience in biomedical research, for example through a thesis, internship, publication or comparable research experience;
- strong communication skills and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively;
- affinity and/or experience with gene regulation, non-coding RNAs, oncology, next-generation sequencing or CRISPR-based technologies;
- basic bioinformatics skills or a strong motivation to develop them further.
Our offer- You will be employed by Amsterdam UMC Research BV.
- A contract for 12 months, with the intention to extend for a total of 4 years. The Guideline PhD contract applies to this vacancy.
- Classification in salary scale OIO: € 3.108 to € 3.939 gross for full-time employment (depending on experience). In addition to a good basic salary, we offer 8.3% end-of-year bonus. Calculate your net salary here. As of 1 July 2026, the salary will be increased by 3.5% in accordance with the collective labor agreement (CAO UMC).
- Holiday hours: 194.4 per year for full time and a possibility to save additional hours.
- 100% reimbursement for public transport travel costs. If you travel by foot, bicycle, or car, a mileage allowance of €0.21 per km applies (up to a maximum of 40 km one way by car).
