The research group Health, Care and the Body (HCB) within the Department of Anthropology is looking for a motivated research officer for four to five days per week for one year.
The position combines research-related and organizational tasks.
You will support members of the research group with their research and assist the Director with tasks related to the day-to-day running of the group. While the research tasks will be linked to specific projects, there is ample room to bring in your own ideas and strengthen your portfolio for your future career. A proactive attitude and the ability to take initiative will be highly valued.
This is what you will do
Research-related tasks include:
- Searching for and reviewing topic-specific literature
- Writing state-of-the-art literature reviews
- Background research for research proposals
- Assistance in putting final proposals together
- Conducting pilot research, including fieldwork visits, developing interview guides, recruiting interview partners and conducting interviews
- Transcribing interviews
- Organizing research data
- Preparing and presenting research results
Organizational/communicative tasks include:
- Coordinating and planning meetings with different (international) partners (academic and non-academic)
- Assisting in organizing meetings and workshops (planning, communication, writing minutes if needed, arranging catering)
- Assisting in updating webpages
- Assisting the HCB director in welcoming guest researchers (making sure that they know their way in the organization and are included in the relevant communication channels).
This is what we ask of you
You have:
- A Master’s degree in anthropology or related disciplines
- Very good research skills, experience with ethnographic or qualitative research
- Good organizational and communicative skills
- A pro-active and independent working attitude
- Excellent proficiency in spoken and written English.
Experience with research related and organizational work is a plus.

The position concerns temporary employment of between 30,4 and 38 hours per week (0,8 - 1 fte) at the Department of Anthropology for a fixed term of one year, subject to a probationary period of two months. The intended starting date will be 1 October or 1 November 2026.
Depending on your relevant work experience, the gross monthly salary will be between €3,057 and €4,484, based on a 38‑hour working week (salary scale 7 or 8), in accordance with theCollective Labour Agreement of Dutch Universities.
We additionally offer an extensive package of secondary benefits, including 8% holiday allowance and a year-end bonus of 8.3%.
