We are working in partnership with a Local Authority based in the Cambridge area who are looking to appoint a Archive Research Manager.
3-6 Month agency contract with a view to being extended on an ongoing basis.
Location - Cambridge, CB2 3QE.
37 hours per week
Rate of Pay - £300+ per day - Negotiable depending on experience.
Job Purpose:
- This Archive Researcher Manager role is an exciting opportunity to help develop and deliver a heritage project in celebration of 150 years of Cambridge Corn Exchange; bringing together the first collection of archive materials and oral histories about this important building, all of which will form the backbone of an exciting programme of public engagement, schools workshops, new digital assets, and culminate in the co-curation of an exhibition to be launched in the building in November 2025.
Main Responsibilities of this Role:
- Researching and identifying relevant archive materials about Cambridge Corn Exchange.
- Identifying archive materials and items that could be digitised to be shared on the Cambridge Corn Exchange website.
- Working with and supporting volunteer researchers.
- Leading on the digitising of available selected items.
- Identifying items for the exhibition and advising and supporting in developing and maintaining 'best practice standards in archival care.
- To carry out other heritage research to uncover key content and stories for the exhibition, digital content and heritage tours.
- To support the delivery of community workshops with community partner organisations, in order to facilitate discussions about the history of the Cambridge Corn Exchange, and to identify and record oral histories.
- To comply with all legislation including GDPR and IP for this project - liaising with external partners as needed.
Essential Skills and Experience:
- Qualified Archivist.
- Experience of archives management, including implementing and developing digital systems.
- Experience of working in a previously uncatalogued archive collection.
- Organisational skills needed to work on a heritage participation project involving many different stakeholders.
- Sound knowledge of GDPR, copyright and data protection legislation and practical application.
- Experience of recording oral histories.
