Position: Associate Lecturer

Location: ON-SITE, Manchester, UK

Salary: £30,000 - £36,000 per year (Depending on qualifications and experience)

Reports to: City Academic Manager / Programme Leader

Position Overview:

As an Associate Lecturer, you will be integral to the delivery of high-quality teaching learning and assessment within your subject area. This role offers an excellent opportunity for academic growth, professional development, and contribution to the broader educational goals of ESL. You will engage in a comprehensive six-month training programme to develop your teaching skills and ensure the effective delivery of the programme, aligned with the standards of the Elizabeth School of London.



Key Responsibilities:

Teaching and Learning:

- Deliver high-quality teaching sessions across various programmes, focusing on foundational aspects of your subject.

- Develop and implement lesson plans that align with programme learning outcomes and syllabi.

- Participate actively in the creation of module-specific Schemes of Work and the development of relevant teaching materials.

- Engage in assessments, providing timely formative feedback to students, and ensuring compliance with the assessment guidelines of Awarding Bodies and Universities.

Training and Development:

- Undergo a structured six-month training programme, including orientation, classroom observations, and shadowing of experienced lecturers.

- Collaborate with your assigned mentor for continuous professional development, including regular feedback sessions and observations at specific intervals (2nd week, 3rd month, and 5th month).

- Prepare for a probation review by compiling documentation and evidence of teaching practice and development by the end of the training period.

Student Engagement and Support:

- Demonstrate effective communication with students from diverse backgrounds, supporting their learning journey.

- Contribute to the creation of a positive learning environment that fosters student engagement, motivation, and academic success.

- Address student queries and provide academic guidance as needed.

- Aim to achieve outcome targets as set by your Line Manager/s

Collaboration and Improvement:

- Work collaboratively with colleagues to contribute to the continuous improvement of courses and the development of the School’s Centre for Academic Practice Development.

- Participate in standardisation meetings, quality checks, and other collaborative efforts to enhance teaching, learning and assessment practices.

- Contribute to module reports and feedback for programme development.



Skills and Qualifications:


Essential:

- A master’s degree in a relevant subject area to our programmes.

- A teaching qualification such as AFHEA (Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy) or PGCHE (Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education)- or aiming to have these within first 2 years of employment

- Proficiency in using educational technologies such as Blackboard, Virtual Learning Environments (VLEs), MS Teams, and Zoom.

- Demonstrable ability to communicate effectively with colleagues and students from diverse backgrounds.


Desirable:

- Previous experience in lecturing or teaching at the Higher Education level.

- Understanding of cross-cultural communication and the ability to build positive relationships.

- Strong communication, presentation, and organisational skills.
