About the role

The Associate Professor (Teaching) will work closely with Module leads and the IoO Education Team to deliver the MSc Ophthalmology programme and to ensure its continued success.

The role holder will be responsible, in conjunction with the other Programme/Module Leads where appropriate, for the organisation and management of the programme, for continued quality and for the academic experience of the students on the programme. This includes leading the programme marketing, admissions, curriculum (development and oversight), review and finalise all assessments’, quality assurance, representation at panels, teaching and managing a team of clinician educators. The postholder will also contribute to other teaching and short courses.

S/he will be expected to be a member of the Departmental Education Committee at IoO and/or any relevant sub-committees and to play an active part in the development of the Institute’s education portfolio and the enhancement of the student educational experience. The role holder will work closely with the Joint Education Team, particularly the IoO Education Manager and the dedicated Senior Teaching and Learning Administrator.

This role is offered on a secondment basis to both UCL staff and applicants from external organisations until 31/08/.

UCL staff will be appointed at Grade 9. Remuneration for external candidates will be commensurate with their current salary.

About you

You will hold a PhD in Ophthalmology or have equivalent experience and will have a solid background in Ophthalmology including extended clinical knowledge of complex ophthalmic conditions.

The successful candidate will have higher education teaching experience including experience of leading a programme and module and experience of developing teaching technologies. Experience of course design and assessment techniques is essential.

You will have excellent communication, organisational and interpersonal skills including the ability to communicate with coommunities targeted by this programme standard of quality in terms of presentation and accuracy.

In addition, you will demonstrate experience of leading positive culture change, or culture creation, within a discipline, department or organisation.
