Your new company
You will be joining a world leading research institute based in the Cambridge area - who have a wide range of partnerships within academia and pharmaceutical & biotech companies - focusing on research within cancer.
The institution has invested heavily in equipment and lab upgrades and fosters a highly collaborative and friendly work environment, where you will be working with leading experts within cancer and biological research.
They also offer very generous benefits, a flexible approach to working and make significant investment into the training and development of their staff, so there will be a number of opportunities to develop new and advance existing skills.

Your new role
You will be joining a well-established group, carrying out cutting edge R&D within oncology, and working closely with a very experienced lead bioinformatician and wet lab biologists on a number of projects, providing insights and support on a range of projects.
Main responsibilities will include:

  • Analyse large-scale genomics / transcriptomics datasets (single-cell RNA-seq, single-nuclei RNA-seq, bulk RNA-seq)
  • Support discovery and translational research, liaising with other bioinformaticians and wet lab biologists
  • Provide bioinformatics support to other team members and assist in data analysis
  • Devise novel solutions to experimental and analytical problems
  • Train group members in bioinformatics software and basic tools / pipelines
  • Help develop and optimise internal tools and pipelines, scripting in either R or python

What you'll need to succeed
As well as strong communication and organisational skills, you should have:

  • At least an MSc (with PhD preferred) in bioinformatics, biology, computer science, data science, statistics or a related discipline - or equivalent experience
  • Scripting/programming skills in R and/or python, with a preference for those who have optimised or developed tools / pipelines / models for analysing complex biological data
  • Hands-on experience with NGS / genetic, genomic or transcriptomic data (either single cell or bulk RNAseq)
  • The ability to work both independently and as part of a wider team on projects

The following are preferred but not essential:

  • Publication record
  • Previous experience within cancer / oncology research
  • Training wet lab biologists or other scientists on bioinformatics

What you'll get in return
An exciting opportunity to work with one of the leading research institutes in the country, excellent career and skills development, a great working atmosphere and the chance to make a real impact on cancer research.
