CLINICAL SENIOR LECTURER IN PRIMARY CARE DENTISTRY

Job summary

We are seeking an outstanding individual to provide leadership in teaching and learning within a primary care setting at Bristol Dental School. The successful candidate will ideally hold a postgraduate qualification in the field and is required to be fully registered with the General Dental Council.

The post holder will provide clinical leadership primarily to the Postgraduate Certificate in Clinical Conscious Sedation and Anxiety Management programme, contributing to the delivery of teaching (including leadership and delivery of Anxiety Management unit),enhancement, and wider integration with other relevant postgraduate training programmes. The individual will also be expected to provide direct undergraduate teaching and clinical supervision to BDS and BSc students, primarily through the maternity cover element of the role. There are many exciting opportunities to help us achieve our ambitions around postgraduate education, along with wider School initiatives such as community outreach and engagement and widening participation. The role will be supported by the Clinical Lead in Clinic A (Oral Surgery & Urgent Dental Care), Deputy School Education Director (Postgraduate), Clinical co-directors, senior nurses, and programme administrators.

Experience

Essential

  • Substantial recent and/or ongoing experience of working in general dental practice or equivalent primary care dentistry setting.
  • Significant experience, knowledge and accreditation in dental conscious sedation and anxiety management.
  • Experience in programme/ curriculum/ course design development and
  • Management.
  • Track record of effective leadership of teams.
  • Excellent organisation and interpersonal skills, and ability to resolve conflict and complaints in a positive manner.
  • The ability to build collaborations with colleagues in complementary areas of work and across different institutions.
  • High-level written and verbal communication, including for example, note taking, writing teaching material, delivering lectures, tutorials and conference presentations.
  • Effective organisational skills , to workforce plan and to implement new services such as dental sedation within the School.
  • Good level of IT skills .
  • Capacity to work in a range of educational settings and situations.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and prioritise conflicting commitments .
  • Awareness of clinical governance issues, and the need to participate in such activities related to all clinical work such as audit and quality improvement.
  • Abilities to provide pastoral support to undergraduate and postgraduate students as a personal tutor, including signposting to specialist services where appropriate.

  • Qualifications

  • BDS or equivalent
  • To have and maintain full registration with the United Kingdom General Dental Council
  • Desirable

  • Relevant postgraduate academic qualification (, Postgraduate Certificate/ Diploma or Masters in Conscious Sedation).
  • Evidence of completion of specialty training in a relevant field , Oral Surgery or Special Care Dentistry.
  • Royal College of Surgeons membership (, MFDS or equivalent) or Fellowship of the Faculty of Dental Surgery (, FDS or equivalent).
  • Membership of professional organisations relevant to primary care dentistry and/or sedation , SAAD
  • Fellowship of Higher Education Academy and/or academic teaching qualification
