Ca’ Foscari invites applications for a Full Professor in Contemporary History.

Ca’ Foscari is looking for a Full Professor of Contemporary history capable of inspiring students to become game-changers in their own fields and to make a genuine difference in the world. 

The selection procedure is open to candidates who have obtained the national academic qualification referred to in art. 16 of Law 240/2010 for the functions of Full Professors and for the academic recruitment field (Gruppo scientifico disciplinare) of the call, according to attachment B of DM 639/2024.

Academics holding a position of Full Professor in Italy (professore or professoressa di prima fascia) or an equivalent position in other countries cannot participate to this procedure.

Teaching activities:

The Professor will teach at least 120 hours of classes in subjects related to Contemporary History, as part of bachelor and master courses at Ca’ Foscari University, as well as seminars.

Specifically:

- Storia contemporanea, 60 hours;

- Storia della storiografia, 30 hours;

- Storia dell’Europa contemporanea, 30 hours;

The candidate will also carry out specific organizational and institutional activities.

Research activity:

Scholarly commitment is required in the fields concerning the history of the period from the major political, economic, social and cultural transformations and revolutions of the late 18th century to the present time.

The candidate is expected to have solid research experience of the phenomena, events, expressions and human activities, and their implications, of the period in question, with special regard to the history of ideas and culture in Europe between the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. In addition, in-depth expertise in the methodology and historiography of the period in question, including memory, is required.

The position will be hosted at the Department of Humanities, a center for the development of innovative and interdisciplinary approaches to history, literature, classics, archeology, art and anthropology. In the Department of Humanities, Marie Skłodowska-Curie fellows and ERC awardees work together with the permanent faculty, creating a vibrant academic environment.
