Lecturer in Design for Enterprise and Culture

Publicerad 2024-11-27

The opportunity

The Design School is looking to recruit a Lecturer for the BA Design Management course.

The course explores the strategic and cultural value of design theory and practice in the context of diverse organisations. It incorporates design production, process, facilitation, and strategy to tackle social and global challenges and prompt entrepreneurial innovation.

This is an exciting opportunity for a candidate with innovative approaches to design practice in an enterprise context with a focus on design thinking and strategic design. The position invites applicants who are keen on bringing together creative practices with business and enterprise approaches, in particular fostering diverse design visual practices in the context of entrepreneurship, including a creative approach to cultural and design leadership.

As a lecturer, you will be responsible to the Course Leader for the delivery of varied design management units across the course with a focus on creative enterprise, strategic design and design leadership. You will bring research and/or industry and teaching experience at the undergraduate level. You will manage and participate in the delivery of student-centred and inclusive teaching and contribute to course development, assessment, quality management and student recruitment.

About you

We are looking for an individual with a qualification at the undergraduate or postgraduate level relevant to design for enterprise. You will have knowledge of delivering creative projects in a professional environment and experience in a range of specialist skills needed to respond to culturally shaped design challenges within the context of inclusive teaching. You will also have comprehensive knowledge of teaching international students.

As an academic, previous teaching experience at the undergraduate level is essential, in addition to experience of professional practice in design management or equivalent. You will also be able to cite examples of the creative industry’s future trajectory and engagement with culturally diverse contexts and enterprises. You should also demonstrate an in-depth knowledge of design management processes as they intersect with social justice, climate emergency and other global social, cultural, environmental, political and economic forces that are transforming the design discipline.

The successful candidate should possess effective interpersonal skills and be a student-centred teacher focused on promoting diversity and inclusivity while demonstrating strong communication and organisational skills. We are looking for applicants who can work collaboratively with colleagues to develop the subject area and share expertise.
