Principal duties and responsibilities

You will be required to make a significant contribution to the delivery of our taught portfolio to BSc (Hons) Human Nutrition and Dietetics, MSc / Postgraduate Diploma in Dietetics, and MSc Advanced Practice (Dietetics) programmes and other areas of our core curriculum depending on your areas of expertise and experience.

You will contribute to the development, organisation, and delivery of teaching and clinical activities within the discipline area and will also be required to participate in research and innovation activities.

The primary areas of teaching will be in nutrition and dietetics, and could include, for example clinical nutrition support, renal dietetics, paediatrics, as well as public health and interprofessional education developing professional skills amongst students. Some modules at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels are co-taught with students from a range of other programmes in the School, and as such the successful candidate will be required to engage with students from a range of discipline areas.

The role will also include placement, supervision, and support for BSc (Hons) Human Nutrition and Dietetics and MSc/Postgraduate Diploma in Dietetics students. Current placement provision has traditionally been based in health boards. The aim is to expand with simulation, on campus provision and engagement with the third sector. It is therefore expected that the post holder will have some current experience of and an innovative approach to clinical placement training.

The post holder will be registered with HCPC and have been working as a Registered Dietitian. They will have experience of supervising students on placement.

What we are looking for

  • An in-depth knowledge of specialist subject and professional area.
  • An in-depth understanding of pedagogy and research/enterprise and scholarly activity.
  • understanding of research/enterprise and scholarly activity.
  • Ability to design, develop and deliver a range of programmes at various levels.
  • Ability to review programme design on a regular basis to ensure compliance with quality standards and academic regulations and to make alterations where appropriate.
  • Ability to contribute to the achievement of the School Development Plan and the institutions strategic planning processes.
  • Ability to develop research objectives, prepare proposals, carry out independent research, referee and contribute to peer assessment.
  • Ability to identify opportunities for strategic development/improvement e.g. research projects, new courses, consultancy.
  • Ability to identify (through the analysis of appropriate management information) areas requiring improved performance e.g. student numbers, student satisfaction.
  • Experience of HE teaching or equivalent.
  • A good honours degree.

You will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills coupled with a commitment to providing an excellent student experience. Being a HCPC registered Dietitian with previous teaching experience and/or experience of supporting students on clinical placements is essential.
