Lecturer position in Animal Behaviour

JOB DESCRIPTION

The chair group Behavioural Ecology at Wageningen University is offering a position as Lecturer in Animal Behaviour. As a lecturer, you will take a leading role in teaching BSc- and MSc-level courses on Animal Welfare, Behavioural Endocrinology, and Companion animals. Additonal contributions to some more of our other courses, such Animal Behaviour, Animal Ecology, and Behavioural Ecology are also possible. You will further support the chair group’s teaching coordination and be responsible to provide BSc and MSc topics and supervise these. There will also be the opportunity to follow up on your own research.

We especially encourage candidates to apply who are interested in companion animal research (cats, dogs) and/or animal welfare research, but other fields are also a possibility. The selected candidate will have a record of excellent teaching ability and motivation and is able to work in an international team. The willingness to further shape and innovate our teaching program are beneficial. We offer a stimulating and friendly working environment. Training and coaching is provided to support the candidate’s professional development.

REQUIREMENTS

You are/ You have:

• A PhD degree in Biology, Animal Science or related field;
• Excellent lecturing and presentation skills;
• Excellent communication skills in English and preferably Dutch;
• Experience with supervising student thesis projects;
• Excellent organisational skills.

The Behavioural Ecology chair group combines expertise in fundamental and applied animal behaviour using a range of animals as research models. Our group is part of the Animal Science Department at Wageningen University & Research.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Depending on your experience, we offer a competitive gross salary of between €4.332 and € 5.929 for a full-time working week of 38 hours, in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreements for Dutch Universities (CAO-NU) (scale 11 ). Initially, we offer you a one-year contract, which will then be extended to an open-ended contract if there is mutual enthusiasm.
