The development of compact pulsed laser sources covering the mid-infrared range is attracting growing interest from the scientific community due to the numerous applications expected, particularly in spectroscopy, imaging, and strong field physics. In this context, CORIA's Department of Optics and Lasers (DOL) was responsible for the ANR BISCOT project, which explored different approaches to developing sources of ultrashort pulses in the mid-infrared.The MIRLAS project aims to pursue these efforts with a view to developing high-performance ultrafast fibre lasers emitting in the mid-infrared, with two main objectives. The first objective is to explore new mode-locking processes combined with new active fibres to develop robust ultrafast sources emitting well beyond the 3 µm barrier. The second objective will focus on integrating these sources by developing optical components based on fluoride glass fibres. The project will exploit the resources available in the RENADIAG and PNMO platforms to develop innovative fibre components for mid-infrared fibre lasers. The exploration of several applications in advanced laser diagnostics using innovative laser sources in the mid-infrared based on ultra-short pulse lasers coupled to frequency conversion devices is also planned, particularly for the study of catalytic molecules or fluids in the supercritical regime. The work of the engineer recruited will consist of designing, implementing, and characterising ultrafast fibre lasers in the mid-infrared, as well as mastering the production of fibre components. High-impact results are expected in both areas of this work and through several scientific collaborations. The engineer's work will revolve around the following activities:Scientific watch (bibliography)Handling of an optical fibre preparation platformDesign of laser sourcesExperimental realization of mode-locked laser sourcesProduction and integration of fibre components for these sourcesThe engineer will join the CORIA Optics and Lasers Department (UMR 6614 CNRS Univ. Rouen Normandie INSA Rouen) as part of a team made up of three teacher-researchers (A. Hideur, T. Godin, PH Hanzard) and supported by a research engineer (S. Idlahcen). Most of the work will be experimental, in the team's laboratories. The candidate must hold a doctorate in photonics or applied physics, with theoretical and experimental skills in laser physics and/or non-linear optics. The candidate must also be able to work as part of an international team and collaborate with other groups in the laboratory.Research engineer position in ultrafast photonics in the Optics and Lasers department of the CORIA laboratory. Duration: 16 months. An engineering background in optics is required, with experimental skills in laser physics.
