The International Potato Center (CIP) is seeking a specialized professional to be the next Research Associate, Gender and Social inclusion with studies in Anthropology, Sociology, Political Sciences, Gender Studies or Agriculture to be part of an interdisciplinary research team in the Social Science Department.


About the role: She/he/they will contribute to gaining a better understanding and exploring ways for improving institutional arrangements and innovation design processes to ensure that agricultural innovation: equitably benefit women and men,foster involvement of youth, anduplift the well-being of social groups marginalized for their ethnicity, class and related factors. 

The successful candidate is also expected to have the capacity and interest to contribute to CIP’s global research agenda.

Key responsibilities:

  • Conduct literature reviews, qualitative and quantitative data analysis, and field research to contribute to the development of evidence-based strategies and interventions promoting gender equality and social inclusion in agriculture.
  • Plan, coordinate and conduct fieldwork activities including surveys, interviews, focus group discussions and other activities in collaboration with project teams and local partners.
  • Work closely with researchers, project managers, and external stakeholders to streamline research efforts and ensure alignment with organizational objectives related to gender and social inclusion.
  • Collect, organize, and manage data related to gender dynamics, social norms, and inclusion practices in agricultural contexts. Ensure data integrity, confidentiality, and compliance with relevant ethical standards.
  • Provide technical support and training to project teams and partners on gender-responsive and transformative research methodologies, tools, and approaches. Contribute to build a culture of gender-responsive and inclusive research practices within the division.
  • Contribute to the dissemination of research findings through reports, publications, presentations, and participation in relevant activities. Engage with stakeholders to facilitate knowledge exchange and uptake of research outputs.
  • Contribute to the development of research proposals, concept notes, and project plans related to gender and social inclusion. 
  • Comply with applicable health and safety CIP policies and procedures.

  • Requirements

    What are we looking for?

  • Master’s degree in applied social sciences with a minimum of 3 years of relevant works experience within the context of agriculture or rural development.
  • At least 5 years of relevant work experience within the context of agriculture or rural development.
  • Proven experience (at least 1 year) in conducting research on gender equality, social inclusion, indigenous people, or related topics, preferably in the context of agriculture or rural development.
  • Proficiency as a communicator with solid team player attributes
  • Excellent English writing and verbal communication skills. Verbal communication skills in other languages are an asset.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for teamwork with scientists and partners from diverse international and professional backgrounds. 
  • Proven ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines and adapt to evolving priorities in fast-paced environments.
