About the role

Comprehensive Training : The purpose of the scholarship is to support a PhD student for 4 years to do internationally leading science in one of the translational research areas indicated above. At the start, the student will choose three 6-week rotations in different labs to gain diverse research experience. The student will then choose one of the three labs for the PhD project. You will have one clinical and one non-clinical PhD supervisor. The primary supervisors, together with the thesis committee, will support you during the PhD.

Outstanding scientific environment : You will be based at the Pears Building, a new state of the art building adjacent to the Royal Free Hospital. You will be registered in the Division of Infection & Immunity, which has an impressive scientific output and comprises 39 faculty members, 48 fellows and 43 PhD students with a total research income of £ 89 million. The Division organises regular internal and external seminars, journal clubs, and clinical meetings. 

Professional Development : The student will not only gain research training but also develop a deeper understanding of the importance of their research for patients. The student will receive training in the ethical aspects of the research involving patients and tissue. You will present your research at national and international conferences, providing an opportunity to meet your peers and experts in the field.

About you

The scholarship will be awarded competitively. Candidates must have a First—or Upper-Second-Class degree from a recognised university. MSc/MRes graduates should have a high mark for their dissertation lab project. Research experience is essential.
