PhD Studentship

Publicerad 2024-10-11

About the role

The PhD Student will be based at the Royal Free Hospital campus of UCL. The main purpose of this project is to understand the molecular basis of steroid-sensitive nephrotic syndrome (SSNS), a prevalent kidney disease in children, especially among Asian populations. By using advanced genomic technologies, we aim to identify genetic variations associated with SSNS to develop targeted treatments with fewer side effects. This research involves sequencing the genomes of South-Asian children with SSNS and matched controls, utilizing a new technology that combines long- and short-read sequencing for high-resolution analysis. The main duties of the successful candidate will be to conduct original research related to the project, participate in data generation and quality assessment, analyze large-scale biological datasets using bioinformatics tools, and develop and maintain analysis pipelines for genomic data. They will also record, analyze, and write up experimental results, prepare and present research findings to colleagues, contribute to drafting and submitting papers to peer-reviewed journals, present research at conferences, and mentor undergraduate students.
