Want to contribute to an ambitious research project?

Join the Paul Pascal Research Centre (CRPP) – of the University of Bordeaux!

This laboratory (in co-supervision CNRS), is specialized in physico-chemistry research. With more than 50 years of expertise, its main research areas are: soft matter, functional or molecular materials, bioengineering and biotechnology.

As part of the «Frontiers of Life» Impulse Research Network, we are recruiting a Post-Doc researcher on the disruption of lipid membranes by chemical signals .

This network finances the ARCHEM project. This project presents an innovative approach to design and study membrane motion and protocellular interactions. This research contributes to fundamental science by exploring the origins of life and the transition from inert matter to living matter.

Votre mission

Your goal is to design a minimal artificial cell capable of chemically directed motion and membrane interactions via lipid membrane deformation. This is motivated by the work of our partner’s group, Professor Šarić (ISTA), where numerical simulations point to localized membrane deformation via chemically active membrane sites.

As such:

# Fabrication and characterization of lipid vesicles

· Formulation of lipid vesicle compositions

· Use of vesicle manufacturing techniques (microfluidics or electroformation)

· Optical microscopic and AFM characterization

# Manufacture of chemo-active particles

· Functionalization with colloidal particle catalisators

· Study of their dynamics in the presence of molecules to be catalyzed

# Membrane interaction with chemo-active particles

· Study of membrane deformations such as protrusions

· Study of UV motion under controlled chemical fields

You will participate in national and international conferences.

Vos atouts / Vos talents

Holder of a PhD in Physics or Physics-Chemistry of the soft matter and have ideally carried out experimental work on the active matter.

· You are autonomous in your work and share with the team

· You are creative in developing new approaches and methods

· You are ideally proficient in microscopy (fluorescence and/or confocal), image analysis and particle tracking on Matlab / Python
