The DKFZ Hector Cancer Institute at the University Medicine Mannheim (UMM) was established in 2019 in the frame of a partnership between the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ) in Heidelberg, the University Medical Center Mannheim, and the Medical Faculty Mannheim of Heidelberg University with generous support from the Hector Foundation II (https://hector.dkfz.de/index.html). The aim is to carry out excellent translational cancer research in the fields of precision oncology, cancer prevention, early detection, and survivorship.

The Division “Policy and Imple­mentation Research for Cancer Prevention” is a newly established division at the DKFZ Hector Cancer Institute at University Medicine Center, Mannheim. Our mission is to bridge the gap between evidence and policy / practice in the area of cancer prevention.

We are looking for an outstanding, and highly-motivated postdoctoral resear­cher to join our team as soon as possible.

YOUR TASKS

The successful candidate will lead the implementation and data analysis of a study aimed at exploring the spatial distribution of tobacco and alcohol outlets in Germany. The candidate is expected to publish findings in high-impact journals, participate in innovative knowledge translation methods to disseminate findings to key stake­holders, and be involved in grant writing. There will also be opportunities to participate in other policy and implementation research projects within the division. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work with cancer prevention experts, policymakers, and the community.

YOUR PROFILE

Applicants must hold a Master as well as a PhD in public health, social sciences, or a related field. Proven experience in applying GIS in health research, along with proficiency in GIS software (e.g. ArcGIS, QGIS) and statistical software is required. The ideal candidate should have a strong interest in policy and implementation research and passion for bridging the gap between evidence and policy / practice. Some travel to field sites in Germany may be required to oversee data collection. Excellent communication and organization skills and proficiency in English is required. Proficiency in German is desirable, but not required.
