A position exists, for a Research Assistant/Associate in the Department of Engineering, to work on Structural Damage Assessment & Data Analysis (Blast Loading)
The post holder will be located in the Civil Engineering Building, West Cambridge, UK.
The 2020 Beirut explosion highlighted the need for a unified approach to blast load prediction and structural damage assessment. Our current inability to accurately predict blast loading in such environments limits advancements in structural damage predictions in real settings. Our aim is to raise the scientific benchmark of these linked but currently disconnected disciplines, and in doing to generate tools and frameworks to strengthen links along the entire event chain: detonation, to blast propagation, to loading development, to structural damage.
Under the EPSRC-funded "MicroBlast" project, colleagues at Sheffield University will perform scaled experiments to replicate the 2020 Beirut explosion, generating detailed, data-rich loading maps to supplement connected studies into structural damage assessment.

Appointment at Research Associate level is dependent on having a PhD. Those who have submitted but not yet received their PhD will be appointed at Research Assistant level, which will be amended to Research Associate once the PhD has been awarded.
Salary Ranges: Research Assistant: £29,605 - £33,966; Research Associate: £36,024 - £44,263
Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 18 months in the first instance.
