About the role

In collaboration with the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital (RNOH) and the University of Cambridge, the UCL Division of Surgery and
Interventional Sciences, the Department of Medical Physics & Biomedical Engineering and WEISS were awarded a Wellcome Trust Innovator grant to investigate novel non-ionising MRI imaging technique and accelerate the diagnosis and pre-operative planning and development placement of screw guides in scoliosis surgery using latest generation Machine Learning techniques.
The objective is to significantly reduce radiation exposure for young patient groups and improve accuracy and safety of spinal surgery.

The project is an exciting opportunity for enthusiastic candidates with excellent technical skills and track record to join an internationally leading consortium. We require outstanding research engineers with in-depth technical skills in medical image processing, device designing and 3D printing technologies, who has a keen interest in the translation of the next generation of interventional systems.

• Research Fellows - 'Appointment at Grade 7 is dependent upon having been awarded a PhD; if this is not the case, initial appointment will be at Grade 6B (salary £38, - £41, per annum) with payment at Grade 7 being backdated to the date of final submission of the PhD Thesis.'

About you

The post holder will work closely with the team at RNOH and clinical partners at the University of Cambridge as well as colleagues from within our lab, the Department of Medical Physics & Biomedical Engineering and WEISS, so excellent teamwork and communication skills will be required.
PhD degree (or equivalent) in an appropriate subject (Essential for Grade 7)
Undergraduate degree (equivalent to an upper second-class Honours degree) and/or a Masters-level degree in Engineering, biomedical engineering, or mechanical engineering
Experience in segmentation and 3D reconstruction of CT/MRI images
Research experience of working with human & animal cadaveric samples will be advantageous.
