About the role
GRADE 7 FOR RESEARCH FELLOW AND GRADE 6B FOR RESEARCH ASSISISTANT
We are looking for a Research Assistant/Fellow to lead on an exciting research project around racial inequalities in prostate cancer. The research, funded by Prostate Cancer Research, aims to understand and address differences in treatment responses and adherence in Black men with advanced prostate cancer (the TRANSFORM project).
This is an exciting opportunity to shape innovative research in this area. You will be able to make a significant contribution to the research, both strategically and scientifically, and will take responsibility for the behavioural science workstream, including patient involvement and recruitment. This will involve leading on the work from design, data collection, analysis and dissemination, as well as co-design work with patients. You will be supported by Professor Rob Horne, Dr Zoe Moon and senior researchers within in the team.
The project will build upon the team’s previous work by evaluating if treatment patterns and outcomes differ between Black and white men with advanced prostate cancer, identifying modifiable determinants of treatment uptake and adherence in Black men with prostate cancer, and developing an intervention to support treatment engagement and optimise treatment outcomes.
The role is available to start on 1st December and is currently funded until 26th February , although there is scope for extension. Some remote working is possible, but the role will require travel across London and attendance at clinics across London during recruitment periods. We are open to either a full or part time position (minimum FTE).
You will be joining a small team in the Centre for Behavioural Medicine in the School of Pharmacy at UCL, and will work closely with colleagues at Barts Health NHS Trust, UCLH, University of Cambridge, University of Exeter, NHS Newham and Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust. The Centre for Behavioural Medicine is led by Professor Rob Horne, with a team of Research Assistants, Research Fellows and students. The group’s research is diverse, and includes innovative approaches to make healthcare more efficient by understanding and addressing relevant psychological and behavioural factors.

About you
To deliver this role effectively you will need a PhD or MSc in a relevant subject area, knowledge of behavioural science theories and a strong interest in racial disparities and cultural factors related to healthcare. You will have experience of working in health research or a healthcare environment, including direct work with patients.
You will have excellent communication skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
As the research focuses on improving health in Black men with prostate cancer, relevant experience of working with and understanding these communities would be advantageous.
