Research Associate- Bonfio Group (Fixed Term)

Publicerad 2024-09-27

We are seeking to recruit a postdoctoral research associate to work on a new project in the laboratory of Claudia Bonfio in the Department of Biochemistry at the University of Cambridge, UK. The project will push the bounds of early Earth lipid chemistry, exploring pathways by which the vast array of diverse lipids now associated with biological membranes came into being.

Research in the Bonfio lab focuses on the chemical origins and properties of early lipid membranes and compartments.()

The position would suit an ambitious and talented graduate who has recently completed a PhD degree in chemistry or biochemistry (with a significant chemistry component) and is keen to gain further laboratory research experience.

The key responsibilities of the post will be conducting an independent research project, assisting with projects ongoing in the lab, and contributing to lab organisation and general lab duties.

The ideal candidate will have a strong aptitude for scientific research, excellent communication skills and works well in a team. Previous research experience in synthetic chemistry is essential, along with knowledge of chromatographic purification techniques and spectroscopic characterisation methods. In addition, experience in molecular dynamics simulations would be desirable.

Training will be provided as required.

The University of Cambridge is a signatory to the San-Francisco Declaration on Research (Assessment DORA) and in recruitment or promotion evaluations will assess research on the basis of its merits rather than the journal or venue in which it is published. Applicants should not include Journal Impact Factors or uncontextualised metrics in their applications. For more information:

The successful candidate would be expected to start at the beginning of November 2024.

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available until 31 October 2026 in the first instance.
