Research Associate/ Fellow (Fixed term)

Publicerad 2024-04-18

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a Research Fellow role for a new EPSRC funded hub entitled UK Clean Maritime Research Hub. This is a new multidisciplinary consortium across thirteen universities with a broad industrial network assembled to address the challenges around decarbonised marine energy, with the focus at Nottingham on decarbonised propulsion and, for this post, advanced Internal Combustion (IC) engine applications.

We are looking for a highly motivated Research Fellow to drive forward and support the engine research work at Nottingham. Candidates must have significant prior experience of experimental and analytical low carbon IC engine combustion research (both fundamental and applied), with an established track record of high impact outputs.

They should be self-starting individuals with a good mix of practical engine laboratory skills coupled with in-depth understanding of advanced fuels and IC engine operation. Significant prior experience of low/zero carbon fuels and clean combustion modes in both thermodynamic and optical engines is essential. Candidates must also have a successful track record of multidisciplinary research with both industry and academic partners, with a willingness to work in new technical areas related to the programme.

Reporting to the Director of the Powertrain Research Centre, the role holder will work with the academics, researchers and PhD students in managing and conducting research activities across the programme. Prior direct experience of successful PhD student co-supervision is desired. The successful candidate will be dynamic, well organised and will have a positive attitude in working collaboratively with a wide range of stakeholders internally and externally, sometimes on challenging and complex multidisciplinary issues.

This is a fixed term full time (36.25 Hours) post starting on 1st June 2024 for a period of 2 years. Job share arrangements may be considered.

Requests for secondment from internal candidates may be considered on the basis that prior agreement has been sought from both your current line manager and the manager of your substantive post, if you are already undertaking a secondment role.

The Faculty of Engineering was the first in the UK to be awarded an Athena Silver SWAN Award, in recognition of our commitment to supporting and advancing women’s careers in Engineering (STEMM). You can read more about this initiative at enquiries may be addressed to Prof Alasdair Cairns,
