Research Associate in Artificial Intelligence Assisted Search, Synthesis, and Characterisation of Two-Dimensional Materials

Publicerad 2024-09-23

Applications are invited for a research position to work on artificial intelligence assisted search, synthesis, and characterisation of two-dimensional materials within the Condensed Matter Physics Group in the Department of Physics & Astronomy at the University of Manchester. Successful candidates will join a vibrant team of researchers who are at the forefront of two-dimensional (2D) materials research and will work on a range of projects related to using machine learning to search for new van der Waals materials and their synthesis routes.

These projects will focus on searching for novel van der Waals materials with desired properties, based on the calculated electronic band structures of 2D materials available in various databases and literature. You will also explore synthesis pathways based on search and understanding of scientific data using AI. The candidates are required to hold or about to obtain PhD (or equivalent) preferably in condensed matter physics, AI or other relevant disciplines. We are seeking to appoint an individual with significant experience in machine learning and programming, and with sound understanding of two-dimensional materials and their properties. Proven proficiency in writing quality research papers is essential. Candidate should be well-organised and self-motivated with excellent communication skills. The projects are expected to lead to high impact scientific publications and datasets, technological developments and a boost in the career of the research associate.

Along with your application, you should submit a single file containing your CV highlighting research-related expertise and skills, list of publications, and research statement (max 3 pages).
