Publicerad 2024-08-22

The role

With support from the Franklin-Adams endowment, the Elizabeth Blackwell Institute has funded a research award to employ and support a post-doctoral researcher for a project focused on children and young people’s health in Bangladesh, within the School for Policy Studies (SPS), University of Bristol.

What will you be doing?

The project led by Prof. Nick Townsend and Dr. Joey Murphy from the Centre for Exercise, Nutrition and Health Sciences, SPS, will use participatory research approaches to engage with communities, and children and young people within urban, rural, and tea plantations communities within Bangladesh, to examine the burden from noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) and the sectors involved in tackling them, including Health Promoting Schools (HPSs). The project will employ community members that are based at the partner institution the Asian University of Women (AUW), Chattogram, Bangladesh, for data collection, to ensure that the research is relevant to their needs. It will link to a range of stakeholders to ensure that the research informs approaches within the country and will also act as a pilot and feasibility study for a larger grant application, with the aim of supporting the researcher after the completion of the project.

You should apply if

Project objectives comprise: To work with children and young people, and wider communities in Bangladesh to identify the current NCD risk factor prevalence in urban, rural, and tea plantation areas; To examine the role that HPSs can play in these areas to promote NCD related health; To identify the key stakeholders who can support schools and play a part in health promotion to children and young people.

A role holder at this level will be an early career or recent post-doctoral researcher with high potential
