Research Associate in bimetallic manufacturing processes

Publicerad 2024-10-11

Are you passionate about cutting-edge research that drives real impact? Funded by Imperial-UKRI IAA, we are seeking a researcher to contribute towards the UK’s carbon reduction goals, supporting the transition to sustainable transportation. Investigating lightweight bimetallic manufacturing processes, this role aims to optimise bonding techniques to enable significant weight reduction in automotive components, which is crucial for improving fuel efficiency and reducing CO₂ emissions.

You will play a key role in advancing this technology towards commercialization by developing finite element models, testing prototypes, and collaborating with industry partners to address technical challenges such as bonding strength, fatigue performance, and corrosion resistance.

As part of this position, you'll work across multiple grants, driving the development of this technology from proof of concept to full-scale industrial application, contributing towards meeting the UK’s carbon reduction goals and supporting the transition to sustainable transportation.

  • For appointment at Research Associate, you will hold a PhD in Material Science or Mechanical Engineering or a closely related discipline, or equivalent research, industrial or commercial experience. Research Assistant must have a first or masters degree in Material Science or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Experience in material testing techniques (. mechanical testing, microstructural analysis) is essential.
  • You must have knowledge of research methods and statistical procedures for data analysis, including finite element analysis (FEA) and experimental design.
  • You must have knowledge of solid-state bonding and bimetallic manufacturing techniques.
  • Knowledge of mechanical testing methods (., tensile, fatigue, creep) and microstructural analysis (., SEM, EDX) is essential.
  • Full information and requirements can be found in the job description.
